Creating Large Scale Sustainable Livelihoods
Development Alternative (DA) is a non-profit organization registered under the societies Registration Act of the Government of India. The activities of Development Alternatives cover a broad array of development issues.
The corporate strategy is to create innovation through design, development and dissemination of

  • Appropriate technologies
  • Effective institutional systems

Environmental and resource management methods
While the approach aims sustainability through commercially viable approaches and scalability through partner organizations and networks.
DA had gained extended knowledge and experience in the VSBK technology during its development and adaptation in India. Currently DA is operating a VSBK competence centre and is the leading dissemination agency in India.

Areas of Cooperation between VSBK and Development Alternative
DA is associated for VSBK Programme with Skat Consulting. DA acts as the external regional support service provider As such; DA provides its services for an effective technology transfer for both tracks VSBK and CESEF. While during 2003 and 2004 mainly being involved in technology issues in VSBK, its support will shift to issues such as advisory on social marketing, enterprise viability etc. Further, DA will cooperate with VSBK Nepal in the establishment of a regional technology know-how nodal point.
DA, together with Skat built up a unique working experience in the CESEF sector through the SDC financed building material project in India, lasting from 1989 till 2001. This experience will be utilized during the upcoming three years.
